What is Apitherapy?

Apitherapy is the use of bee products such as honey, bee pollen, propolis, and royal jelly for the prevention and treatment of illness or disease. Apitherapy originated in ancient Egypt and has been practiced for centuries around the world as a natural and holistic approach to healing.

Apitherapy Products

A number of different bee products are used in apitherapy to address a variety of concerns. 

Honey

Pure honey has been used throughout history both as a sweetener and for its medicinal properties. Honey has a number of medicinal benefits including digestive benefits, wound healing, and oral health.

Bee Pollen

Bee pollen contains vitamins, proteins, amino acids and other phenolic compounds and can be used to help with digestive health, inflammation and chronic disease.

Bee Propolis

Bee propolis contains over 300 biologically active compounds. Its main active ingredients are powerful antioxidants called flavonoids and can benefit immune function, oral health, wound treatment and diabetes management.

Royal Jelly 

Royal jelly contains Major Royal Jelly Proteins. MRJP’s are said to be the medicinal ingredient in royal jelly and its benefits include digestive health, increased immune function, sexual health and dermatological effects.

Bee Venom

Bee venom contains the enzyme phospholipase a2 (PLA2). PLA2 is the major allergen in bee venom, however PLA2 has shown potential in pain management. Bee venom can be used for chronic illness management and treatment of inflammation, pain and open wounds.

Beeswax

Beeswax has health benefits in household and cosmetic use due to its antibacterial properties.
